Caregiver Interview Questions and Scorecard
A repeatable interview structure for comparing caregiver and home-helper candidates fairly.
·
Ask behaviour-based questions
Invite the candidate to describe what they did in a comparable situation rather than asking only yes-or-no questions.
- Tell us about a similar household routine.
- How would you respond if a planned task could not be completed safely?
- How do you record changes and communicate with a family?
- What schedule can you reliably maintain?
- Which duties are outside your experience or comfort?
Score evidence, not impressions
Use a 1-to-5 scale for role relevance, communication, judgement, schedule fit and verified experience. Add written evidence for each score and avoid ranking a candidate on assumptions.
- 1: no relevant evidence
- 3: relevant example with some gaps
- 5: clear, relevant and verifiable evidence
Give the candidate a full picture
Explain duties, schedule, pay range, location and who will supervise the work. Leave time for questions; an informed candidate can assess fit more accurately.
